Black Forest Rock Clock

Reproduction of a clock made around 1640. The weight is a genuine Black Forest rock. The gears and hour hand are made of wood. The pendulum is on top and the time can be adjusted by moving the weights inward or outward from the pivot point. This clock was the first clock that an average wage earning person of 1640 could afford. Weights may vary from picture as shown. 2 year warranty.

In 1640 the "Waaguhr" was the first mechanical clock that was affordable by the new middle class in Europe. Its simple design allowed for only one hand indicating the hours. The average person of the Seventeenth Century measured time with only three times of day:sunrise, high noon, and sunset.

This clock tis a charming example with a working moon dial. The face is painted by the award winning painter Conny Haas.

The mechanism is made of wood and is powered by a roughly hewn rock from the Black Forest.

This clock features an enamel dial, antique brass weights. Also available is a chef figure.
